Mission Statement: My mission is to promote sanity in the world through the
dissemination of information.
|
|
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting
different results.
|
|
Sanity: Doing something different when the things we do aren't working.
|
|
How?: How do we, as a world, become sane? Sanity begins at the
individual level with one person at a time developing the ability to see the
world as it is, and developing the personal initiative to change his or her
behavior. When enough individuals gain their sanity, the world will
change, becoming more sane.
|
|
Am I Sane?: I am probably a little more sane than most, but I
don't claim to have a complete understanding of reality. I believe that
we all see the world though the lens of our own experience, and that experience
is simply a reflection of the truth.
I still do things that make little sense. Things like building this series of web sites for
instance. I do recognize my own lack of knowledge however, and that has made quite
a bit of difference in my life. I constantly strive for a greater level
of understanding.

Areas of Interest: My areas of interest fall primarily within the
criminal justice system. I have been a jail volunteer for several years,
providing a weekly group counseling session for inmates at our local
jail. There are no end of people in jail meeting the definition of
insanity proposed above. They keep doing the same things over and over
again, expecting different results.
In the process of working with inmates, I have developed an insider's view
of the criminal justice system, which also seems to fit the definition of
insanity. We, as a society, keep locking people up when the break the
law, letting them go after a suitable amount of time, then catching and locking
them up again when they haven't learned their lesson. After many years of
watching this process, I decided to try to help end the insanity.
|
|
Personal Initiatives: In addition to visiting inmates, I have been
working to help ex-offenders transition to the community through the Central
MN Reentry Project. I have helped on weekend retreats with inmates to work
with their spiritual growth in the REC-Connect
Program. I have a Master's degree in Criminal Justice Counseling, and
have been studying the behavior of offenders in the community. I am
working to determine how to break the cycle of imprisonment through work in Nonlinear
Dynamics.

Where to go from here: Check out the resources. If you find
something interesting, let me know. This is a work in progress. As
I mentioned, efforts to build sanity in the world, are a form of insanity in
and of themselves. Be sane. Do something different.
